L. Oliver Noble Jr., Of Counsel to the Firm, engages in the general practice of law and is a certified mediator. A native of Lenoir County, NC, he received his undergraduate degree (B. S., 1967) from North Carolina State University and his law degree (J. D., 1970) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After twenty-five years of service on the bench,
Mr. Noble retired as Senior Resident Superior Court Judge in 2002. From 1977 to 1986, he served as District Court Judge; from 1986 to 1998, he served as Chief District Court Judge. Before coming to Hickory to practice law, Noble worked for one year as a research assistant to Judge Earl W. Vaughn at the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
Mr. Noble was one of three judges in America to receive the prestigious Foundation for the Improvement of Justice Award in 1998. He is a former member of the Governor's Crime Commission, the Chief Justice's Liaison Committee, and of the Bench Book Committee for the North Carolina Conference of Superior Court Judges. He is a Past President of the North Carolina Association of District Court Judges. Noble is a member of the North Carolina State Bar and the North Carolina Bar Association.
Mr. Noble is a founder of Repay, Inc., a non-profit corporation organized to provide alternative sentencing, mediation, pre-trial and post-trial services to the court system. He was Chairman of the Board for ten years. Noble has written newspaper columns and produced radio programs about the law and the court system.
Mr. Noble is a Past President of the St. Stephens Lions Club, and has been active in the Catawba Valley Camera Club. He has previously been named Volunteer of the Year by Catawba County Schools. He is a member of the Hickory Rotary Club.
Noble and his wife, Sharon, a Jackson County native, have resided in Hickory since 1971.
