Michael Barnett, Attorney, Hickory, NCMichael Joseph Barnett, Partner of the Firm, represents corporations and individuals, plaintiffs and defendants, in a wide variety of litigation matters in the areas of Business Litigation, Construction/Real Property Litigation (commercial and residential), Estate Disputes, Insurance Defense, Collections and Domestic and Family Law.

 

Mike has represented clients throughout the state in more than 20 trials, at arbitration proceedings and at the North Carolina Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Mr. Barnett was named one of North Carolina’s Rising Stars for 2012 and 2013 in the state’s Super Lawyers publication.

 

The Weirton, West Virginia native received his undergraduate degree (B.A., 1998) from the State University of New York at Albany, graduating summa cum laude. As an undergraduate, Mr. Barnett studied at Oxford University, New College. Mike received his law degree (J.D., 2002) with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During law school, he was a member of the North Carolina Law Review as well as a recipient of the Gressman-Pollitt Award for Appellate Advocacy. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

 

Mr. Barnett is the past president of the Catawba County Bar Association and the past president of the 25th Judicial District Bar.  He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys.  Mike serves on various committees of both organizations.

In the community, Mr. Barnett is a member of Viewmont Baptist Church, where he teaches Sunday school, plays on and coaches the church basketball team and previously served as a deacon and on the church's personnel and finance committees. Mike is on the board of directors for the Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry.  He is a graduate of the Leadership Catawba program offered by the Catawba County Chamber of Commerce.

 

Mike and his wife, Agnese, live in Hickory with their daughters, Nicole and Isabel.
