Mr. Hood received his undergraduate degree (B. A., 1988) and law degree (J. D., 1991) with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. David received the top grade in his law school class, and thus was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Awards in, the subjects of Torts, Business Associations, Constitutional Law, Probate, Criminal Procedure, Income Taxation, and Trial Advocacy. He was a staff member of the North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation. In addition, the Mecklenburg County, NC, native was an Associate Justice of the Holderness Moot Court Bench. The Hickory attorney is past president of the 25th District Bar (Catawba, Caldwell, and Burke Counties); a past president and current member of the Catawba County Bar Association; a member of the North Carolina Bar Association; a current Board member and Treasurer of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys; and a member of the Commercial Law League. David serves as Counsel to the Catawba Valley Chapter of the American Subcontractors Association providing guidance to members on construction law topics including liens, payment issues and insurance coverage. He also serves as Counsel to the Catawba County Board of Commissioners. Mr. Hood has spoken to lawyers and industry groups on such topics as handling auto insurance claims, contractor liens on real estate and contract funds, underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage, use of private investigators in litigation, ethics for litigation attorneys, real estate litigation, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. He has also written for legal and industry publications on various subjects including contract drafting issues, use of local rules in litigation, and contribution claims among defendants. In the community, Mr. Hood is the past president of Cooperative Christian Ministry of Greater Hickory and past Chairman of Viewmont Baptist Church Board of Deacons. Additionally, he served a three year term on the Coordinating Council of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina. He is currently Chairman of the Catawba County Board of Elections, a past member of the Catawba County Board of Adjustment, past president of the Catawba County Republican Men's Forum and past chairman of the Leadership Catawba Committee/Catawba County Chamber of Commerce. David is also a current member of the Lake Hickory Rotary Club. Hood is;involved in the local arts community, having performed in numerous lead roles both at the Green Room Community Theatre in Newton and at the Hickory Community Theatre. David now serves President of the Green Room’s Board of Directors. He also received a Metrolina Theatre Association Best Actor award for his work with the Hickory Community Theatre. The third of five children, Mr. Hood and his wife, Sandi, reside in Hickory with their children, Wilson, a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill and Callie, a senior at St. Stephens High School.
